Boseong Youngcheon Village Dadorak  

In Boseong, the origin of the tea, it has been passed down that there was tea when Geunchogo of Baekje was a king.
The historical records can be found in Sejong Chronicles Geography(Sejong sillok geography, 1454) and Shinjeung Dongguk Yeoji Seungram(1530).
According to the record in Sejong Chronicles Geography(Sejong sillok geography), Woongjeom tea place(now Ungchi-myeon) and Galpyeongso(now Hoechen-myeon) where the tea was made were set up in Koryo Dynasty. Considering that, the tea of Boseong has old history.

The terraced green tea field was selected as the 12th in ‘31 Beautiful Sights on This Incredible Planet’ by CNN. Also, it was designated as Korea’s Important Agricultural Heritage No. 11 and has been proceeding to register as GIAHS(Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems). Youngcheon Village of Boseong terraced green tea field has a good natural environment with moderate rainfall and amount of sunshine, and well-drained soil which is the optimal condition to grow tea trees.

The mist put down in the tea field after the rain is the source to provide water and nutrient for trees. As the tea field surrounded by Youngcheon Lake has a natural environment, the visitors admire this place as the hidden pearl.

Dadorak tea garden manages about 10ha of organic tea field, and the whole area of the eco-friendly green tea village plant unit of Youngcheon village is about 50ha. Except for some companies having processing factories, the whole of handpicked Spring tea leaves are purchased and about two-ton in the level of dried leaves, about 500kg of black tea and blending tea are manufactured for companies to order a large amount of these. To produce the products considering the consumer’s trends, more than 100 items reporting were completed and various products have been selling now.

Boseong is famous for the industrial complex of Korean representative tea, and the scenery of the terraced tea field in Hoechen-myeon is a very attractive place for visitors to stay around. After enduring the cold winter covered with white snow, the warm spring sunshine to grow all things of Dadorak tea garden comes to the tea trees softly and the tender leaves of tea(茶) trees grown for a long time are picked to make tea with heart.

The four seasons of Dadorak garden create the green scenery when the tea(茶) buds sprout in March and April, the own green waves of tea in summer. Pure-white tea(茶) flowers let visitors stop in late fall and the terraced tea(茶) field covered with white snow in winter creates the indescribable scenery. Walk along the path of Dadorak tea garden looking at the color-changing tea leaves, you can feel the mood awake from winter sleep.

Youngcheon lake, the lifeline Heochen tea field, creates a great spectacle which looks like the dragon ascending to heaven when the mist is up after the rain. Also, this mist is the source to provide water and nutrient for the organic tea fields. The tea of Boseong has been cultivated eco-friendly and the eco-friendly green tea village plant unit acquired certificated organic for the whole tea farm in 2009 through the efforts of the local residents.
